Pheasants Forever member Andrew Schultz and his 6-year-old German shorthaired pointer, “Toby,” bagged this rooster on Christmas Day, 2014. “We only had about an hour to get out at the end of the afternoon, so we hit one of our favorite hotspots - a thick cattail creek-bottom draw on my cousin's property,” Schultz says, “We came up empty in the thick habitat, but on our way back to the rig, we walked the bottom of a grass terrace to this fence-line and Toby froze on a point about 20 feet from our car and about 5 minutes before the end of shooting hour.”

Shultz says Toby relocated two times before he locked up for good. “I’d never seen him do a triple-take before, but sure enough, this tricky rooster lifted and was dropped and retrieved beautifully. It was a wonderful end to a great Christmas Day.” Shultz and Toby hail from Merrill, Iowa.
