Call of the Uplands® is Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever's first-ever comprehensive, national campaign: a $500 million effort to cultivate the next generation of conservationists and protect and restore upland habitat.

OUR VISION

In the Uplands, we have a Treasure unlike any other in the world.

From vast golden prairies that stretch across the continent to quiet pine forests that make the world disappear, every wild place holds a promise–a chance to escape, to reconnect, to come alive.

These lands are part of who we are: a gift from past generations of dedicated hunters and conservationists, inscribed with memories and promising new adventures.

Here, Every Acre Tells A Story.

Your dog holding its first perfect point. The explosive flush of a bird. The stillness of the walk back home.

These essential connections—among land, water, plants, animals, and people—are the foundations of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever.

BUT TODAY, THE UPLANDS ARE SOME OF THE MOST THREATENED PLACES IN THE WORLD.

BUT TODAY, THE UPLANDS ARE SOME OF THE MOST THREATENED PLACES IN THE WORLD.

All across North America, wildlife habitat is rapidly disappearing. Since 2009, the Great Plains have lost more than 53 million acres of grasslands—an area the size of Kansas—to development. Longleaf pine woodlands once covered 90 million acres of the American Southeast. Today, less than 3 percent remain. Changes in land management practices jeopardize the future of the West’s public lands and the upland bird populations they support.

Today, we have the chance to change that story.

That is why we’ve launched Call of the Uplands®, our first-ever comprehensive, national campaign: a $500 million effort to cultivate the next generation of conservationists by providing over 1.5 million Americans with outdoor experiences and designed to enhance over 9 million acres of upland habitat from the West’s expansive landscapes, to the vast Great Plains, to the quiet southern pine woods. This campaign is our best chance to bring together dedicated citizens, hunter-conservationists, farmers, ranchers, and other partners with a common cause:

A promise to conserve our uplands before it's too late.

PILLARS

Together, we’re taking a stand. We have the mission, the expertise, and the passion to make wildlife habitat a NATIONAL PRIORITY—AND A PLAN TO EXPAND WILDLIFE HABITAT CONSERVATON ACROSS THE FOLLOWING STRATEGIC AREAS:

Habitat Conservation

During the campaign we will establish, enhance, restore and protect the highest quality habitat in strategic locations across the country.

We will create a mosaic of high-quality habitat, establishing or improving 9 million acres nationwide and permanently protecting 75,000 acres through fee-title acquisition and conservation easements.

2,400,000 acres

Western Landscapes

5,800,000 acres

Central Landscapes

910,000 acres

Eastern Landscapes

We’ll achieve this goal by advancing three key strategies:

Permanent Protection

Restoring & Enhancing Habitat

Partnering with Landowners

The challenges we face are immense—but our approach and our efforts will deliver real and lasting benefits to the lands we love, the wildlife they support, and the hunters and communities that depend on the health of both.

Education & Outreach

Through the Call of the Uplands® campaign we will reach 1.5 million participants with new and expanded education and outreach programs to engage them in outdoor recreation, shooting sports, hunting and habitat conservation.

We’ll achieve this goal by advancing three key strategies:

Habitat Education

Conservation Leadership

Hunting Heritage

The future hunters, conservationists, and leaders that we engage through this Campaign may be its most significant and lasting legacy:

IT WILL BE UP TO THEM TO CARRY OUR MISSION FORWARD IN THE YEARS TO COME.

Advocacy

We will leverage the full strength of our grassroots organization—because every member and supporter has a vital part to play. In the coming years, we will ensue that we have a proactive presence on Capitol Hill, making conservation a key part of our national dialogue.

Everything we hope to accomplish in protecting and enhancing habitat begins with government policy—and the progress we achieve in policy affects every landscape we care about.

Through Call of the Uplands®, we will bring the collective voice of our 500,000+ constituents and coalition of partners to critical dialogue in Congress, at federal and state agencies, and in state legislatures across the country.

We can make sure our lands and wildlife continue to thrive forever.

BUT WE WILL NEED EVERY LAST MEMBER OF OUR COMMUNITY TO JOIN US IN REALIZING THIS VISION
