Pheasants Forever is seeking qualified contractors to assist with the restoration of approximately 80 acres of native mixed-grass prairie within Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This project will focus on the Fryburg Plateau restoration area and includes site preparation, native seed installation utilizing no-till drill seeding methods during the fall dormant seeding season of 2027, followed by establishment monitoring and maintenance activities for three years after seeding.

The project area is located within the northern Great Plains mixed-grass prairie ecosystem, one of the most ecologically significant and imperiled grassland systems in North America. Theodore Roosevelt National Park contains extensive native prairie communities that support diverse wildlife, pollinators, and ecological processes. Portions of the Fryburg Plateau have experienced historic disturbance and are being actively restored to improve native plant diversity, increase ecological resilience, and enhance habitat quality. Restoration efforts are intended to reestablish a diverse native plant community representative of the surrounding mixed-grass prairie landscape.

The selected contractor will provide all labor, equipment, and expertise necessary to complete site preparation and no-till drill seeding operations across approximately 80 acres. All native seed and plant materials will be furnished by the National Park Service. Contractors will be responsible for coordinating seeding operations to meet project specifications and ensure successful installation of the provided seed mix.

Following seed installation, the contractor will conduct follow-up maintenance and vegetation management activities over a three-year establishment period. Maintenance treatments are anticipated to occur three to five times a year during the contract period and may include mowing, herbicide application, invasive plant control, and other adaptive management measures necessary to promote successful establishment of native vegetation and suppress undesirable species.

The purpose of this project is to establish a diverse and sustainable native prairie plant community that will improve ecosystem function, increase habitat value for wildlife and pollinators, and contribute to the long-term conservation of the mixed-grass prairie resources within Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Contractors with demonstrated experience in native grassland restoration, no-till seeding operations, and vegetation management are encouraged to respond. This RFQ will close on October 5th, 2026.
