February 20, 2024 – Oklahoma City, Okla. – Pheasants Forever (PF) and Quail Forever (QF) are proud to introduce the newest Women on the Wing Chapter in Oklahoma. The Red Dirt Sisters Women on the Wing Chapter will provide women in central Oklahoma opportunities to connect and learn about the uplands and other outdoor pursuits with a supportive community.
Unique among national conservation organizations, chapters of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever retain 100 percent decision-making control over fundraising dollars, allowing volunteers to support impactful wildlife habitat projects, public access initiatives and conservation education programs throughout the upland bird range. PF & QF’s Oklahoma and southern Kansas regional representative, Laura McIver, will work closely with the new chapter to support the organization’s vision to sustain abundant populations of wild pheasants, quail and other wildlife.
“I'm thrilled to have a chapter establish here,” McIver said “I enjoy empowering women in the world of upland bird hunting – learning the sport, along with its conservation and habitat aspects, can be daunting. Having this group available will serve as an excellent support system for new hunters to learn and have fun!”
The chapter plans to recruit new hunters by offering regular, engaging activities. Their goal is to help women build confidence in a supportive environment, develop skill sets for the outdoors, give access to learn these skills and practice them and to teach important conservation values. The chapter’s next meeting will be on March 19 at 6:00 pm at Papa Dio's in Oklahoma City, followed by a Learn-to-Shoot clinic on April 6 at 1:00 pm at the OKC Gun Club in Arcadia.
