Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever are proud to announce the organization’s “How to Hunt Upland Birds” series has won a pair of video production awards. The AVA Digital Awards and the Telly Awards honor achievement in video and film across all platforms and genres. The five-part series, produced by Modern Carnivore, won both an AVA award in long-form video production and a Silver Telly award in the culture and lifestyle category.
“We’re incredibly proud that our “Learn to Hunt Upland Birds” series has garnered the recognition it deserves, both within the hunting community and beyond,” said Colby Kerber, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s director of conservation education programs. “We wanted to capture the magic of the uplands, and take it to a broader audience to help engage new hunters. Through this series we’re able to do that, and provide some helpful tips along the way.”
The How to Hunt Upland Birds online course features the stories of five hunters chasing a wide array of upland bird species in five different geographic regions. Videos include a mix of compelling personal narrative films and short how-to videos. The series is part of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s Learn to Hunt Program, which helps get new hunters involved in the uplands through outdoor skill development events throughout the year. These innovative events are specifically designed to provide knowledge, essential skills and an introduction to upland bird hunting through interaction with experienced, ethical mentors and hands-on activities.
Learn to Hunt is part of a broader initiative to recruit, retain and reactivate hunters across the country, known as the R3 movement. R3 focuses on strategically increasing and diversifying participation in shooting sports, hunting, and angling. The movement began as a result of a noticeable decline in hunting and shooting sports participation over the last several decades.
“These awards are a wonderful confirmation that we created something unique, and something that stands out in not just the outdoor media world but beyond it as well,” said Mark Norquist, the founder of Modern Carnivore. “While it’s important we get people out hunting, it’s just as important that we expose as many people as possible to the value and process of hunting, so they can appreciate and understand it. This series accomplishes that goal by telling the stories of hunters across the country in a personal way, while also providing an instructional component.”
This Project was funded by a Multistate Conservation Grant (#F22AP00799-00), a program funded from the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program, and jointly managed by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.
