Dubbeldee Waterfowl Production Area Established in Southwestern Minnesota

Pheasants Forever and its partners are proud to announce the acquisition of 160 acres in southwestern Minnesota to benefit pheasants, small game, waterfowl and a wide variety of non-game species. The newly established Dubbeldee Waterfowl Production Area (WPA) will provide essential public hunting land access in Lincoln County and was established thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Buffalo Ridge Chapter of Pheasants Forever and associated partners.

Dubbeldee WPA is currently a grassland/wetland complex with minimal restoration activities currently planned thanks to the foresight and management activities of previous owners Allen and Debs Dubbeldee. “This land was meticulously managed by Al and Debs, who place a lot of value on wild areas and conservation. Their ‘pay it forward’ attitude will ensure public users also have the opportunity to enjoy this parcel as their family has over the years,” stated Eran Sandquist, Minnesota state coordinator for Pheasants Forever.

Pheasants Forever chapters work tirelessly to protect strategic parcels of land for wildlife and outdoor recreation. The projects born from these efforts impact more than just local hunters and outdoor enthusiasts; the creation of management areas and other public land designations help expand outdoor opportunities for sportsmen and women. The conservation benefits of these projects are far-reaching and extend well beyond upland birds and waterfowl to include important habitat for aquatic species, big game and songbird populations.

Scott Simmons, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service project leader, noted the importance of this project and partnerships saying, “Working together on a landscape-scale is key to effective conservation. Dubbeldee WPA is a project that came together from identifying common goals and mutual conservation objectives. Projects like this define and exemplify the effectiveness of partnerships and help to ensure the creation of conservation legacies and critical wildlife habitat throughout the state of Minnesota.”

The Dubbeldee WPA was made possible by contributions from Buffalo Ridge Pheasants Forever, Minnesota’s Outdoor Heritage Fund, U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the Dubbeldee family. Wildlife enthusiasts can now access the new area just north of Ivanhoe, Minn.

In addition to Dubbeldee WPA, the sponsoring chapter has also contributed to the 104-acre Kvemmo Waterfowl Management Area (WMA), the 36-acre Claire Johnson WMA and the 160-acre Shaokatan WPA.
