This was it. The last day of Rooster Road Trip. The last day to put it all together and accomplish our goal of claiming a true Montana mixed bag. No excuses, no “we’ll get them tomorrow,” it was time to put it all together. So you can imagine our glee when we awoke to a landscape of fresh snow.
For the uninitiated, the first snow of the season is an unofficial holiday for pheasant hunters. It seems to confuse young birds and create more opportunities for close flushes – but there’s only one way to test this theory, and that’s to get out there and make first tracks.
Hopefully, throughout this entire series you’ve been able to see some of our successes in habitat conservation while also witnessing the possibilities created by opening these landscapes to all of us. And working together, the possibilities really are endless – so get out there and dare to dream a little. Take your own road trip, invite someone new, make your own memories, and know that none of this should be taken for granted because we have to keep fighting for conservation – today, tomorrow, and forever.
