It’s a Bash for Butterflies, Bees … and the Birds! … at National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic

By Anna Swerczek

Palooza (noun): A festival, celebration, party.

Join us to learn more about – and to celebrate -- the connection between the birds, butterflies and bees.

Back by popular demand, the Pollinator Plaza at 2022 National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic (March 11 – 13 at Omaha’s CHI Center) promises to provide information on popular pollinator species, citizen science research projects, fundraising campaigns, and habitat programs being implemented to provide quality habitat for a host of grassland and wildflower-dependent species, including pollinators such as monarch butterflies and honeybees, upland birds including pheasants and quail, and other wildlife.

Whether you’re interested in attracting pollinators to your backyard or to a prairie of a hundred acres, there’s something for you at Pollinator Plaza.

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever are committed to establishing quality habitat that is equally beneficial to pheasants, quail, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife. In the first few months of life, pheasant and quail chicks, like most bird species, depend on soft-bodied insects as their primary food source. The soft-bodied insects that these chicks depend on are attracted to the same high-quality habitat that we’re putting on the landscape.

Pollinator habitat is a win-win for upland and migratory birds and many species of pollinating insects!

There will be several hands-on activities available to educate participants of all ages on the value of pollinating insects and the habitat they call home. You can even replicate the monarch butterfly migration and see how far you would make it during the 2,000-mile migration!

Love the fluttering of monarch butterflies and the buzzing of bees? Then we’ll see you at Pollinator Plaza.

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever is a national leader for conserving habitat critical to monarchs and pollinators. In the last 7 years, we have developed seed mixes that have included milkweed for 28,478 projects across the Midwest. Of those projects, we have impacted 289,875 acres and planted 1.05 billion milkweed seeds. In addition, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever employ field biologists throughout the country. These biologists meet with 30,000+ landowners per year, impacting over 1 million acres annually that benefit both pollinators and game birds.

Anna Swerczek is Habitat Education Program Manager for Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever.
