Standing the test of time and providing confidence in the field for the most seasoned upland hunters, the name “Beretta” inspires firearm excellence amongst its loyal followers. Every sportsman and sportswoman has their go-to special firearm which they’re partial to, but the first time you shoot a Beretta, it just may be the last new gun you ever purchase.

Uplanders can take pride in knowing 500 years of ingenuity and inventiveness are on your side when you carry a Beretta. Since the company’s origins in the 1500s, 15 generations of the Beretta family have carried on the tradition of manufacturing specialty firearms. The Italian-born firm currently produces about 1,500 guns per day, with 90 percent of its products manufactured for sporting purposes.

Following are Pheasants Forever’s reviews for three of Beretta’s most popular shotguns.

A300 OUTLANDER

The perfect gun for shooting mallards in the morning and pheasants in the afternoon, the A300 Outlander is the latest evolution of Beretta’s 300-series, gas-operated, semi-automatic shotguns. At only 7.25 lbs., this all-purpose gun is built for any scenario and all conditions. With four major parts for easy disassembly, this gun also features a self-cleaning piston and a fitted rubber recoil pad. Of all Beretta’s semi-automatic products, the A300 is unmatched in versatility and value.

690 FIELD I

With the classic over/under style and the latest modern firearm innovations, this gun combines a nostalgic look with revolutionary technology. Available in 20 or 12 gauge and featuring Beretta’s patented Steelium OptimaBore HP barrels, the 690 Field I promises accuracy and  extended service life versus the competition. The receiver includes a double-fenced top along with floral engraving to distinguish yourself in the field. The rounded handguard and stock are manufactured out of oil-finished selected wood, and the stock sports a 20mm Microcore recoil pad for smooth, easy shooting. This shotgun is built for a lifetime in the field.

686 SILVER PIGEON I

A favorite among hunters and competitive shooters, the Silver Pigeon offers all the functionality and elegance of Beretta over/under firearms, but for a modest price. Available in three gauges – 12, 20 and 28 – this gun can be comfortably enjoyed by any shooter. Featuring two conical locking lugs at mid-action right between the barrels gives this gun a great locking strength and durability while keeping the action’s profile considerably lower. The advantage is that the eye of the shooter is close to the plane of the supporting hand; the resulting hand-eye coordination gives this shotgun a considerably better swing and makes it ideal for upland bird hunting. It may look like a showhorse, with a classic oil-finished stock and engraved receiver, but the Silver Pigeon is a workhorse in the field.

Features:
Interchangeable Chokes
Weight: 7.5 lbs.
Low Profile Receiver
Schnabel Fore-End
Scroll Engraving
Selected Walnut Stock
Cold-Hammer Forged Barrel
Tang Safety and Barrel Selector

Whether you’re a shooting pro or taking to the field for your first season, this first-of-its-kind Beretta series of shotguns are real winners based on the classic and bestselling 690 Field models. But the Vittorias feature dedicated ergonomics to ensure a smooth, comfortable and precise handling that is designed for smaller frames. And of course, there's still Beretta full-size performance. Available in 12 or 20 gauge, the Vittoria comes in 26”, 28”, or 30” barrels for women of different heights and lengths of pull.
